H.C. Branson papers. [1940s-1968].

Henry Clay Branson was a Michigan-based mystery writer active in the 1940s through the 1960s. Branson's mystery stories featured the detective character John Bent. This collection contains manuscripts with notes and revisions for all of his major mystery publications as well as his Civil War novel, "Salisbury Plain." Editorial and critical correspondence is also included.

Henry Clay Branson was the author of a number of crime novels written primarily during the 1940s and 1950s. Salisbury Plain was one of his later works. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, and received his B.A. from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1937. He died in 1981.
